The event kicked off with an introduction by Annette Galskjøt, CEO of International Federation for Housing and Planning (IFHP), on the work her organization does in the field of urban planning. Annette touched upon the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and their influence in humanistic city planning.
Annette was followed by Flemming Borreskov, President of IFHP, who presented and explained the “catalytic city model.”
The event concluded with keynote speaker Jan Gehl, world-renowned architect and urban design consultant whose work focuses on improving the quality of urban life through people-first planning. Gehl drew upon his 50 plus years of experience in the field to chart the slow philosophical change from auto-centric concrete jungles to green, accessible, and climate adaptive.
Copenhagen is consistently ranked among the top 10 most livable cities in the world, and Gehl resonated with the students about the city they now call home.
Jan Gehl and Flemming Borreskov provided their professional experiences and perspectives, giving students the opportunity to think critically about the designs of cities and how they are created with people in mind.
